Zweifel zu streuen soll nun ein Hochverbrechen sein?

James Hansen, one of the world’s leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.¹

Murray Rothbard ingeniously solved the problem of air pollution that environmentalists quibble about endlessly. His argument for private property inclusive of air over a piece of land solves, among other things, the problem of pollution. “In so far as the outpouring of smoke by factories pollutes the air and damages the persons or property of others, it is an invasive act. Air pollution, then is not an example of a defect in a system of absolute property rights, but of failure on the part of the government to preserve property rights.” If property rights include the right to modify the air over one’s land, then one may pollute so long as this pollution does not spill over into the air space of another. This is an outright impossibility given the flow of air; and many cunning ways can be developed to prevent emissions from getting into the air, anywhere from storing emissions in bottles to finding ways to convert emissions into water vapor, thus alleviating the problem. Emissions, the bane of environmentalists, would be significantly reduced on a free market, as individuals who do emit pollutants could face legal action by their victims.¹

Eine grossartige (libertär-skeptizistische) Dokumentarsendung von John Stossel über die unsinnigen staatlichen Schutzbestimmungen für Schwangere und junge Mütter, die einzig dazu führen, das die Risikopersonen weniger oft angestellt werden; über die Bestrahlung von Lebensmitteln, um Bakterien und Viren abzutöten und so Lebensmittelvergiftungen zu verhindern (und der unwissenschaftliche, irrationale, tödliche Protest von dutzenden, ja hunderten Gruppierungen, die dies unbedingt verhindern wollen und leider Erfolg dabei haben); über Leute, die absichtlich halsbrecherische Risiken eingehen, um ihren Spass zu haben, und für die die Allgemeinheit dann aufkommen muss (z.B. die Rettung von Extremsportlern, betrunkenen Kletterern oder blossen Eisfischern bezahlen); über gefährdete Tierarten und deren Rettung (Die Rettung, die im privaten Besitz und in der kommerziellen Verwendung exakt dieser besteht. D.h. statt den Handel mit und das Töten von Tigern zu verbieten (mit einem Nutzen annähernd Null), soll man sie auf Farmen züchten und essen.); über Doping und andere leistungssteigernde Produkte (und das Märchen, dass Steroide zu Krebs und Kriminalität führen) und die lächerliche Ehrlichkeit im Sport; über die finanzielle Unterstützung der Alten und Ältesten, namentlich staatliche Rentenprogramme (Medicare (welches auch nur ein Ponzi scheme ist, in etwa wie die gutschweizerische AHV)).

Ein guter und ausführlicher Beitrag darüber, dass man nicht die Menschheit ändern muss, um Tiere und allgemein die Natur zu schützen (resp. diese nicht an den Rand des Abgrunds zu treiben) sondern lediglich privates Eigentum an Tieren/Land/Wasser zulassen und die Eigentumsrechte entsprechend schützen muss:

Any resource held in common – whether land, air, the upper atmosphere and outer space, the oceans, lakes, streams, outdoor recreational resources, fisheries, wildlife, or game – can be used simultaneously by more than one individual or group for more than one purpose with many of the multiple uses conflicting. No one has exclusive rights to the resource, nor can any one prevent others from using it for either the same or any noncompatible use. By its very nature a common property resource is owned by everyone and owned by no one. Since everyone uses it there is overuse, waste, and extinction. No one has an incentive to maintain or preserve it. The only way any of the users can capture any value, economic or otherwise, is to exploit the resource as rapidly as possible before someone else does.

But private ownership allows the owner to capture the full capital value of the resource, and self-interest and economic incentive drive the owner to maintain its long-term capital value. The owner of the resource wants to enjoy the benefits of the resource today, tomorrow, and ten years from now, and therefore he will attempt to manage it on a sustained-yield basis.

The proper path toward resolving the vexing issues of wildlife conservation lies in removing wildlife from common property resource treatment and creating private property rights. This entails an outright rejection of the concept that wildlife should be viewed as the common heritage of all mankind. It also poses a direct challenge to the basic philosophical beliefs of many environmentalists. But if we are to resolve the tragedy of the commons and preserve our natural resources and wildlife, we must create a new paradigm for the environmental movement: private property rights in natural resources and wildlife.¹

Kathryn Johnston’s death is tragic. But the real tragedy here is that had the cops found a stash of marijuana in her basement that actually did belong to her–say for pain treatment or nausea–her death would have faded quickly from the national news, these tactics would have been deemed by most to be wholly legitimate, and we probably wouldn’t still be talking about her today.

These cops were evil. But they worked within an evil system that’s not only immoral on its face, but is rife with bad incentives and plays to the worst instincts in human nature.¹

…the Harvard Law School is having a conference to analyze the “free market mindset.” The basic premise of the conference seems to be that people who believe in limited government are psychologically troubled.

The conference schedule features presentations such as “How Thinking Like an Economist Undermines Community” and “Addicted to Incentives: How the Ideology of Self Interest Can Be Self-Fulfilling.” The most absurd presentation, though, may be the one entitled, “Colossal Failure: The Output Bias of Market Economies.” According to the description, the author argues that the market “delivers excessive levels of consumption.” Damn those entrepreneurs for creating so much wealth!²

While the immediate causes of the various bushfires are thought to include arson, discarded cigarette butts, faulty power lines, or lightning strikes, these initial fires transformed into huge infernos and spread uncontrollably across Victoria only because of extremely high fuel loads throughout the state’s bushland. Würde man das Urheberrecht – d.h. das Prinzip des Geistigen Eigentums, d.h. Ideen als Eigentum anzusehen und das “Kopieren” einer Idee (was nichts anderes darstellt als das, was Kunst und Kultur, ja unsere ganze Zivilisation ausmacht: Imitation) unter Strafe zu stellen – konsequent auslegen, so müsste man auch Tanzschritte kopierrechtlich schützen. Greenpeace hat ein Stück Land auf der geplanten dritten Startbahn des Londoner Flughafens Heathrow gekauft, mit dem Ziel, den Bau der Startbahn zu verhindern. Die Umweltorganisation will das Land in Kleinparzellen aufteilen und an Prominente weiterverkaufen.¹

Grüne sind nicht gerade dafür bekannt, unbedingte Befürworter eines freien Marktes zu sein. Man kennt sie eher als Liebhaber von Regulierungen und strengen Gesetzen. Und doch hätten sie nun in Grossbritannien den Ausbau des Flughafens bei Heathrow verhindern können, herrschte tatsächlich Kapitalismus in England. Denn die Grundprinzipien des Kapitalismus sind: 1. Eigentumsrechte und 2. Vertragsfreiheit. Anarchokapitalistisch ausgedrückt: Würde das Nonaggressionsprinzip eingehalten, so gäbe es nun keine Möglichkeit, diesen Flughafen gegen den Willen der Besitzer dieses kleinen Fleckens Land, wie geplant auszubauen. Doch da die Engländer unter einem etatistischen System leben, das per Definition Enteignungen vorsieht, wird der britische Staat den Grünen ihr Eigentum vermutlich entreissen.

Man sieht also, dass sich Umweltschutz und (Anarcho-)Kapitalismus ganz und gar nicht ausschliessen. Der freie Markt kann den Grünen sogar regelrecht in die Hände spielen.

Die Sommerzeit wurde eingeführt, um Energie zu sparen. Ein urgrünes Credo. Doch im amerikanischen Bundestaat Indiana verursacht die Sommerzeit eine Erhöhung der Nachfrage nach Elektrizität:

Vorgestern, also samstagabends, gingen in tausenden Haushalten pünktlich um acht die Lichter aus. Ein Zeichen gegen die Klimaerwärmung war es. Pardon, sollte es werden. Strom wurde so wenig gespart, dass es in Deutschland nicht einmal zu einem Blackout kam. Ach, wie hätte ich frohlockt, wenn doch. Wie hätte ich mich an den sich verhaspelnden Fratzen der Grünen ergötzt, wenn jemandem eingefallen wäre, die Hintermänner des Stromausfalls zu befragen. Na ja, ich träume, gefragt hätte sowieso niemand. Der Ökologismus hat seine Wurzeln schon zu tief in die Mainstream-Medien gebohrt. Und welcher rechtschaffene Mann liest denn heutzutage noch jene kleinen feinen digitalen Magazine, die man gemeinhin Blogs nennt?

Nebst einem Anzeichen für die Klimahysterie war die Lichtaus!-Aktion brilliante PR für die Initianten. In welch gutem Licht nun die Boulevardblätter stehen, und erst recht die klimagipfeljettenden Umweltorganisationen, nicht zu vergessen der Linken liebstes Hippie-Kind: Google. Erst recht die Politiker, die sich gegenseitig mit Lob überschütten für einen so grossartigen wie lobenswerten Einfall. Und ganz nebenbei Wählerstimmen einsacken wie Kieselsteine. Heuchelei gemischt mit Alarmismus und Aktionismus schlägt sich äusserst positiv in den persönlichen Statistiken nieder.

Ein Lächeln würde nun mein Gesicht zieren, könnte ich die Zeitungsartikel über das geringe Interesse der Bevölkerung an jener ominös-obskuren Aktion im Wissen lesen, dass die Leute bewusst das Licht nicht ausgemacht haben. Sie haben sich nicht gewehrt gegen die Gutmenschen und Klimahysteriker, sie wollten kein Zeichen setzen gegen die Verteufelung der westlichen Lebensart und der Vergötterung konfuser algore’scher Hassprediger. Es war ihnen schlicht egal, wer da nun was macht oder lässt.

Ach, wie mir diese Selbstgerechtigkeit verhasst ist, die morgen wieder literweise aus Schlagzeilen und Leserstimmen tropfen wird. Dieser drängende Realitätsverlust, der sich mit bitterem Selbstlob und mentaler Faulheit vermischt. Ja, ich sehe sie schon vor mir, diese Leute, die stolz erklären, wie sie sich am Samstag nach linker Art für das Klima angestrengt hätten – was das auch immer heissen soll, die Erde hatte immer schon ein Klima, ein stetig schwankendes noch dazu – und zwei Sätze später stolz verkünden, dass sie sich in den diesjährigen Weihnachtsferien endlich mal einen Flug nach Marrakesch leisten können.
